NEW YEAR | New Opportunities

The year 2019 will be remembered for the landslide election result and not much else. Locally we have seen few changes with our High Streets holding their own and with no major events to speak of.

The decade has delivered huge improvement to the area as follows :

Saracens coming to Copthall. This has brought huge benefits to the area and at last a world class sporting facility in the Borough.  The fans have come and spent in the area helping many businesses survive the decade. In addition the club has gone from strength to strength on the pitch winning numerous trophies.

The Mill Hill Neighbourhood Forum gave the area 5 years of new community initiatives.  Their work has led to a Town Square which is now used by all groups as a local meeting place.  They helped set up the NW7Hub to save the Library and worked with the Mayor of London to improve Salcombe Gardens and the Broadway shopping areas.  Along with community initiatives and four years of regular festivals and markets the area finally had a non political organisation to provide for everyone from poor to rich in the area. Their contribution finished with the winning if Step Free Access millions for the Broadway Thameslink Station. The effects of these 5 years will last a 100 years. The 25 strong Committee and their Chairman during the 5 years can be rightly proud of the way in which they improved Mill Hill pulling it into the 21st Century.

This site has always been forward looking and non political as well.  Over the last 40 years the area has suffered from the "Mill Hill Moaners" who seek to take Mill Hill back to the 1970s or even 1950s as some sort of Golden Age.   They oppose all development and all new fangled shops and businesses.  This has held the area back but it is now clear that they may be a noisy minority but they have finally been sidelined with their old fashioned views.

Mill Hill steps into the new decade with loads of high quality housing being built by the excellent Barratts London. A new growing Mill Hill will see 10,000 new residents at least this decade. They will be forward looking and continue to change and improve the area.  We won't lose our beautiful green spaces or our sense of quiet community.  The shouty political activists in the area have failed to connect with the people and trust in our MP and Councillors is at an all time high.  They have delivered in the last 10 years huge improvements. The ballot box shows that the area is backing them.

So in the coming decade we look forward to the new West Stand and its facilities at Allianz Park, the step free access at Thameslink with its increased services, and improvements to the areas infrastructure and more with the development of the brown field sites for housing. Hopefully, electric cars and other initiatives will calm down the increase in traffic we have seen in the last 40 years as well.

Stay positive and remember its the fantastic people who make the area great to live in. We have low crime, beautiful green areas, quality shopping, caring community groups and improving infrastructure.

Finally, get involved with the area by shopping, eating, and attending events and faith events locally as much as possible.  Stay positive and we will see by 2030 a modern and even better Mill Hill for us all.
