MILL HILL COMEDY CLUB : Review (Photo)

MILL HILL COMEDY CLUB
NW7 HUB, HARTLEY AVENUE NW7

MONDAY 2 JULY 2018

ADA CAMP and HER SNAKE ! ( ADA CAMP and HER PSYCHIC DUCK ) LEAVE MILL HILL LAUGHING OUT LOUD !

It was one of those hot summer nights where you wanted to be in the company of an air conditioner but we decided to attend the new Comedy Club at the NW7hub.

The evening was billed as an Edinburgh Preview show and on entry we were greeted with an invitation for our free drink - and very generous it was as well.  The opening evening had been around a third full but on this sunny Monday a good crowd soon built up and the venue was over half full for this new venture.  Therefore, it seems that Comedy has a good audience here in Mill Hill.

First onto the stage was our host for the evening,  RACHEL CREEGER who described herself as a Jewish comic but that she had no similarities with Miriam Margoyles !   Her  introductory set was full of very funny observations about being Jewish in a comedy genre.  Even a misbehaving microphone could not stop her warmth entertaining the audience who seemed to greatly enjoy her set.

Following on was Irish comedian CHRISTIAN TALBOT.  His accent alone made his stories about life and depression easy on the ear.   His 15 minutes of fame in the media were brilliantly described and accompanied by a TV News video to show us the crazy way in which the media present stories. Certainly an accomplished story teller and very funny.

A short interval saw our refreshments topped up from the well stocked cafe and the venue was really buzzing after two excellent acts.

The final act was in ADA CAMP.   She arrived on stage dressed as a variety artist - from the great days of variety.  Visually she was superb from the moment she walked onto the stage.  She then went into her act describing how she started as a Strawberry - her first love Arthur - and eventually how she became a variety artist.  All was done in an almost pantomime way - involving the audience in the act - and drawing tears and howls of laughter from the audience who were literally rolling around in their seats. Her SNAKE was one of the stars of the show but no spoilers - you need to come and see her show.  It was - as they say - comedy gold.     ADA CAMP is one of the best characters in comedy I have ever seen live.   The audience all seemed to agree and cheered her to the rafters at the end of her set.    However, she did not complete the full story because this was after all a preview.....so I do hope there will be a chance to see the full set in Mill Hill at a future date - and I would say get a ticket and get there because you will love it.

Finally we were treated to our host RACHEL CREEGER who completed the evening with a short and told the audience that she hoped that the comedy club would be a regular event at the NW7hub alongside her very popular night at the Adam and Eve pub on the Ridgeway.

We have no dates yet for the next Comedy Club but will let you know as soon as we find out.
