Next Week : Loads of Shop and Business reviews

You may have noticed that this week we have not posted much news. This is because we have been out and about taking photos and looking at loads of shops on the Broadway and in the area.

We are about to launch a DIRECTORY section for this BLOG.

So this week expect to see loads of new photos and reviews of businesses and the start of our MILL HILL DIRECTORY which will list every shop and business in the area.

Visit us this week and catch up on the progress.

Happy Birthday to ROGER ( Barnet Eye - Mill Hill Music )

Story HERE

We at BROADWAY BLOG want to wish ROGER at Barnet Eye a very happy birthday. Mill Hill resident and campaigner, organiser and owner of the greatest Music Studio complex in London. A man who gives more of himself to this area than anyone could ever imagine.

I would hope our local grandees would recognise this one day in the Birthday Honours ! For his contribution to Music and Mill Hill alone he qualifies with knobs on.

It may not be sunny but if you are in Mill Hill today head down to the cafes and bars and pubs and restaurants and raise a glass to "OUR ROGER" - they are already busy today as they have been on Sundays all summer.

Mill Hill Broadway is certainly the place to be on a Sunday. Great food - great churches - great company and great vibe.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROGER !

ALLOWANCEGATE : Victory for the People !

Fantastic news that the Council is to re-visit the allowances award which has created such a massive scandal in the Borough.

A victory for common sense and especially for the leading blog in the Borough " The Barnet Eye" which carries the full story HERE

A fantastic day in Mill Hill - the sun is shining brightly after a dismal weekend of rain - as if to celebrate this wonderful news.

Certainly tonight would be a good night to celebrate this - and THE BRIDGE TAVERN ( Pictured above before its refurb - new pictures soon ) on the Broadway is showing the MANCHESTER UNITED v NEWCASTLE game and has a special offer on doubles of spirits at just £3.20 !

RENTING ON THE BROADWAY !

Mill Hill is a fantastic place to live and renting on the Broadway gives you access to a wide variety of shops and fabulous transport links for work and leisure. With the Park and Village easily walkable from the Broadway it also can feel like being out of a large Capital city especially at the weekend.

As a general guide One Bed Flats go for around £150 - 190 per week and Two Bed flats for around £170 - 220 a week.

There are as always several newly refurbished flats just come onto the market like this one HERE and some are completely new if you search the site.

Things to do this Weekend in Mill Hill

A quiet week and changeable weather. However, dont let that put you off having a fantastic weekend.

The Broadway has some of the finest and best value restaurants in London - catering for all tastes from Indian to Spanish to Pizza to Chinese to Turkish to Italian.

In addition the pubs of Mill Hill including The Three Hammers as well as the Broadway's Bell have good food offers that are worth taking advantage of this weekend.

The weather may not be the best for visiting the Park but taking a walk around Mill Hill and ending up in a Pub sounds like a good plan.

The sales are mostly over on the Broadway but the shops remain busy and if you have not visited the new shops that have opened in the last 12 months then this would be an ideal time to browse what they have to offer.

POSTER CAMPAIGN against Rises

A poster campaign has started against the "Allowancegate" self awarded rises by our councillors.

If you would like to display a poster then please go HERE and download it.

The whole community is united against these rises and this is a visual way to show our anger at a time of cuts.

Every Barnet Newspaper and Website and Blog is campaigning against these rises and we at Broadway Blog are proud to stand up for the people of our area against such things. We hope that the pressure will bring an end to this as soon as possible.

Tickets are on sale now at just £7 each from HERE Will be a fantastic night for all fans of excellent music ! Would be great to see loads of support for these amazing artists.

Reviews of Rory Ellis new album PERFECTLY DAMAGED and his UK TOUR :

"Australian singer-songwriter Rory Ellis has one of those voices you just can’t buy – rugged, gravelly, it oozes been there done that credibility and the words that emerge from deep in his throat are rough enough to use as sandpaper

It’s Ellis and his voice that drives it though: a compelling instrument, it demands attention, effortless in its power and the combination of that and his old school storytelling, honed in the hard miles in puts in on the road make this a fine record."

7/10 review in Americana UK

Date review added: Wednesday, August 04, 2010
Reviewer: Jeremy Searle

"Sunday started with a performance of real quality from Rory Ellis Duo. After a long Saturday, which had been enjoyed to the fullest by all, Ellis was the perfect choice to begin Sunday's proceedings. A veteran of the festival scene, Ellis and his partner in crime Alex Roberts steadily coaxed us from our hangovers with a country-influenced blues set delivered with flair and the deep, hypnotic, stonecarved vocal style that identifies Ellis as a uniquely talented performer."

ALLOWANCEGATE ROW rumbles on at Barnet Council

It is very clear that the allowance scandal which threatens our democracy here in Mill Hill - Barnet is still rumbling on with the local press still in overdrive and local blogs continuing to keep up the pressure whilst thousands have signed the petitions against these awful rises.

If you are not yet aware or want to catch up with the latest then the BARNET EYE blog has the most up to date information HERE and links to all the petitions which we encourage you to sign in the spirit of democracy and fairness. Broadway Blog is not politically aligned in any way but will always seek to stand up for local business and people when we feel that our area is suffering. This is one of these occasions. In addition we disagree with the Brent Cross development which we believe will have an adverse effect on Mill Hill, not least because of plans for a dangerous incinerator. We do suggest that people join the Mill Hill Preservation Society in order to preserve the beauty of this area as well and to not let developers run riot in our back yard !

There are some newly reburbished offices available for just £12,000 PA with parking on the Broadway and you can download the PDF about them HERE

NEW ADAM AND EVE OWNERS want LOCAL IDEAS

The new owners of the Adam and Eve pub have asked on their blog HERE for local input into their plans for their re-opening of the pub which you may have read about on here or in the Hendon Times last week.

They are moving ahead fast on getting the interior ready for a late Autumn opening - and are planning to hold a meeting for interested locals to also put their views.

Ideas mentioned so far include getting local suppliers for food and wines etc. and making it a community pub with food.

We think it will compliment very well the remaining pubs in Mill Hill ( The Hammers - The Bell - The Bridge - Rising Sun ) and be a welcome addition to the superb restaurants and pubs the area is renowned for possessing.

DELISSERIE New York Deli and Grill

Another fantastic restaurant on the Broadway is the flagship of the Delisserie chain of New York Deli restaurants.

Serving a fantastic range of Deli meals and Grill meals at reasonable prices and with a wonderful outdoor seating area this restaurant is fast becoming one of the most popular in its genre.

The SALT BEEF is said to be the best outside of New York - so well worth a try if you have lunchtime this summer and want to try it out.

The full menu and info about the Restaurant can be found HERE

The restaurant is next to Yogopink and Pizza Express and opposite The Day of the Raj and The Good Earth making the A41 end of the Broadway a delight for all those who appreciate good food and truly making Mill Hill Broadway the "Restaurant Capital of North London".

AUGUST on the BROADWAY

So we have made it to the Summer Holidays and the long hopefully sunny month of August. After having celebrity chefs, Rachel Stevens, film crews and shop openings galore in July we now get to the chilled out part of the year - unless you read Barnet Eye blog ( See links on this blog ) where full resistance to the awful Council Allowance rises is on the agenda !

In August we will have more features on local businesses - and more reviews of restaurants plus up to the minute ( literally ) news from the Broadway itself.

Anyway back to my Nick Drake album and some lovely wine from Mill Hill Wines and a chilled out Sunday. Enjoy the day and the month.
